Claxton Opera

Claxton Opera was founded in 1978 by Richard White. The aim has always been to present opera and music drama of the highest quality using amateur East Anglian singers, instrumentalists and artists. Therefore it is a company without membership which can consequently draw on the most appropriate artists for any particular presentation.

Performances were at first presented in different venues - again chosen for their suitability to a particular production. Since 1993 productions have been largely in the small opera house in Richard White's home at Claxton.

Claxton Opera is always looking for new talent in every area: singers, both soloists and chorus members, set builders and painters, property makers and Front of House staff.

Following our very successful production of Darius Milhaud's Le Pauvre Matelot this year, it is our intention to stage Der Freischütz by Carl Maria von Weber in 2011. More details here
